If used tyres are not retreaded, they end up in landfills.
12 Million Tyres stacked 10 high use 110 lac Sq.ft of landfill each year.
One Cricket field = 90,000 sq.ft. When we say 110 lac sq.ft, it means an area of about 120 cricket fields with tyres stacked 10 high every year).
Every retreaded tyre is one less tyre that needs to go to a landfill. Truck tyres can be retreaded up to three times, thus enabling three times the resources and energy to be saved and ensuring a corresponding reduction in waste.
Tyres are basically petrochemical products. It takes 26 gallons of oil to manufacture one new truck tyre. Most of the oil is found in the casing, which is reused in the retreading process. As a result, it takes only 7 gallons of oil to produce a retread.
About 720 Million litres of crude oil is used to produce 12 Million tyres – 60 litres for each tyre!
If these 12 Million tyres get retreaded, Tyre Retreading Industry will be Saving 720 Million litres of crude oil !!!
In retread tyre only 25% Natural Rubber is used, whereas every New Tyre needs around 80% Natural Rubber.
